Description from the seller

Property description:

For sale is a fascinating and extraordinarily impressive testament to the last Ice Age: a real, fossilized molar from a woolly mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius).

With a stately length of 19 cm and a weight of exactly 2.0 kg, this is a massive and heavy collectible and by no means a small fragment. The tooth charms with its deep brown, ancient patina, as well as the highly visible anatomical structures.

Particularly impressive are the densely packed, parallel enamel laminations that run in close succession. These extremely hard enamel lamellae formed a clamp-like chewing surface, enabling the mammoth to efficiently grind the sparse and tough vegetation of the ice age mammoth steppe—including silica-containing grasses, herbs, and twigs. On this exceptional piece, the evolutionary adaptation of these Ice Age giants can be impressively traced.

Condition and preservation:

The fossil remains in an honest and authentic state and has a particularly beautiful, natural appearance. It shows the typical drying cracks of mammoth molars, which formed over millennia in sediment. The substance is stable and solid.

The piece is superb as an exclusive display object for a living room or workspace, as a focal point of a natural history collection, or as a biological demonstration and study object.

Scientific data at a glance:

Species: Mammuthus primigenius (Woolly Mammoth)
Family: Elephantidae (Elephants)

Weight: approximately 2,000 grams (2 kg)
Dimensions: approximately 19 cm long × 12 cm wide × 9 cm high
Locality: Yakutia, Siberia (Russia)

Packaging and shipping:

Fossils of this type require specially protected transport due to their delicate structure. The tooth is packed for shipping with great care and multi-layered in bubble wrap and securely fixed in a sturdy, shock-resistant carton.
