Description from the seller
Karl Lagerfeld, signed XL photo, gold metallic highlights, "Eurydice and Orpheus"
Freja Beha Erichsen and Abbey Lee Kershaw embody the two most famous lovers of Greek tragedy.
Orpheus, a genius musician, madly in love with Eurydice does not hesitate to descend into the Underworld, seducing Hades with his music to bring back his beloved from the realm of the dead. He will guide her toward the light, but be careful: he must not look back...
2010 shoot on the theme of legends and myths from Greco-Roman mythology, embodied by the top models of the house Chanel that Karl Lagerfeld directed.
The photo adopts a three-dimensional composition close to classical sculpture, with the aim of rendering it flat in black and white, very few shades of gray, but with a brilliant use of light and projected shadows, here sublimated by gold metallic highlights applied by hand after printing (Orpheus’s mask, Eurydice’s hairstyle, piercing… unique exemplar).
Karl underscores the emotion of the lovers who keep crying on their path to leaving the Underworld, as well as Orpheus’s golden lips that managed to seduce the terrible Hades.
The Pirelli 2011 calendar, considered one of the most glamorous of all time, reflecting “the creative genius of Karl Lagerfeld.” It was presented in Moscow before a gathering of collectors from around the world at the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Theatre.
Very large professional-grade print in 60 x 42 format. Sold unframed. Matte photographic paper, very thick, certified “Forest Stewardship Council” or FSC, from responsibly managed sources.
Sold without frame
Tags: photos, prints, posters or high-quality inkjet impressions: Man Ray, H. Newton, H. Ritts, Karl Lagerfeld, P. Demarchelier, Formento … and Hugo Pratt, Milo Manara, Giovanna Casotto, John Bolton, Paolo Serpieri, Moebius, Tisselli, Bilal, Giraud, Frazetta …
