Pastel on paper titled 'Giovane donna con specchio', a 19th-century French artwork, sold with frame.
Description from the seller
Scuola Belle Epoque (early 1900s)
title: Young Woman with Mirror
technique: Pastel on paper
Signed (signature not identified)
dimensions: 60 x 50 cm (work), 62 x 52 cm (with frame)
The work, a refined pastel on paper, depicts an elegant female figure absorbed in contemplating her image reflected in a small handheld mirror. The painting brushwork is soft, expressive, and of notable mastery, capable of rendering with great sensitivity the volumes of the drapery and the delicacy of the skin.
The graceful pose and the refined color choice, played on muted tones and delicate luminous effects, place the painting squarely in the artistic climate of the Belle Epoque, at the early XXth century.
Although the signature at the lower left remains unidentified for now, the pastel undoubtedly reveals the hand of a professional author of considerable talent.
The careful use of chiaroscuro makes the girl emerge from the softly blended background, giving the entire composition an intimate, suspended, and exceptionally decorative charm.
The glass will be removed for shipment to avoid damage and deterioration of the work; if you wish to keep it, let me know but I do not take responsibility.
The frame visible in the photo is included in the lot as a pure courtesy from me and is not part of the sale, does not determine its value, and, given its delicacy, is not insured. Consequently, any defects already present on the frame are not reported and any damage to it during transport will not be considered for claims or returns. The wall-mounting hardware could also be removed. Glass often breaks during transport and can damage the artwork. On request, they can be removed at no additional cost. Please indicate if you prefer the work to be shipped without it; otherwise I cannot assume responsibility.
Shipping and customs notes
>The item is shipped from Geneva, Switzerland. For this reason, delivery times to European Union countries may be slightly longer than usual due to standard customs procedures.
In case of return of the package due to wrong address, unclaimed package, or unpaid duties, the buyer will have to pay for a second shipment and cover the return costs.
I also remind you that, since Switzerland lies outside the EU customs area, import duties, local VAT, and customs charges are entirely the buyer’s responsibility and will be requested by your country’s authorities upon delivery. I recommend informing yourself in advance to avoid surprises. Alternatively, if possible, in-person pickup in Geneva is always my preferred option and strongly recommended, as it will eliminate shipping costs and ensure maximum safety for the artwork. If shipping is chosen, I will do my best to package the piece to protect the frame during the journey."
