Large Moroccan Judaica brass tray with 39 Hamsa motifs and Hebrew inscription "Shaddai" – hand-engraved, ca. 1900–1940
For sale is an exceptionally large Moroccan Judaica brass tray with a diameter of about 57 cm, dated to circa 1900–1940. The tray is entirely decorated with finely executed hand-engraved and chiselled geometric and floral ornaments.
Of particular note are exactly 39 identical Hamsa motifs, repeating regularly around the tray. In the decorative areas, the Hebrew inscription שדי (Shaddai) appears repeatedly, a traditional name of God in Jewish context, meaning roughly “the Almighty.”
The careful, uniform execution of the engravings testifies to the high craftsmanship of traditional Moroccan metalwork. The reverse side shows natural age-related patina with reddish-brown and greenish corrosion traces, which give the piece an authentic historic character.
