Baptismal shell and paten in sterling silver - Granada School - 19th/20th century
Magnificent baptismal shell (baptismal paten) made in solid sterling silver by the prestigious Granada School of Silversmithing (Spain).
Iconography: Exquisite and meticulous relief and chiseling work depicting the biblical scene of the Baptism of Jesus at the hands of John the Baptist in the Jordan River.
At the top, the depiction of the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove surrounded by pierced celestial rays stands out.
Artistic details: The contour is richly festooned and chiselled with geometric and floral motifs of great dynamism.
Authenticity marks: It bears two official hallmarks engraved on the reverse of the securing tab: hallmark of purity (metal purity) and locality/maker mark (pomegranate emblem, characteristic of historic Granada silverwork).
Weight: 150 grams.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. Clear reliefs, solid structure with no dents or breaks. Natural silver patina.
