Description from the seller

This is a saif/Kilij/Shamshir type sword, most likely dating from the 19th century

Key features of the specimen:

Blade: Curved, with the characteristic grooves (channels for lightening), typical of eastern swords. The curve is moderate, which is typical of the Balkan and Ottoman variants.

Handle (Hilt):

Made of buffalo horn with the characteristic 90-degree pistol bend at the end for shamshirs.

Fixed with rivets with protruding heads.

Octagonal/cross-shaped metal scabbard-crosspiece (guard) with elongated hand guards.

The octagonal metal coil (wire) at the base of the handle serves for additional reinforcement.

Shoulder:

Wooden, wrapped in original black leather with a stitched seam along the length of the back.

Preserved metal fittings and rings for hanging with their original leather strap for carrying over the shoulder or on the belt.
