William Lund & William Hipkins “London Rack” – England, 1855

English mechanical rack-and-pinion corkscrew, known under the trade name “London Rack”.

The model was designed by William Lund and his foreman William Hipkins and patented on 2 April 1855 under British patent No. 736.

By turning the side lever, the gear engages with the central rack and the cork is drawn from the bottle.

The specimen features an open steel frame, a turned wooden handle, a broad leaf-shaped worm, and integrated bottle clamps. Authentic, used condition, with signs of age, wear, superficial oxidation, and a blemish.
