Handmade Sumak
It is closely related to the Caucasian Soumak tradition. Unlike a simple kilim, Soumak is woven using a technique in which the weft threads are wrapped around the warp threads, usually leaving loose strands visible on the back. This technique gives the textile a more textured, substantial, and durable surface than a traditional flat-woven kilim.
The most striking feature of this Soumak is its highly detailed animal-motif design. The field is almost completely filled with numerous small animal and geometric motifs, a decorative characteristic frequently seen in antique Caucasian weavings.
