Description from the seller
I offer, with no reserve, this Pair of large altar candlesticks in bronze with angel heads – 19th century (Restauration/Napoleon III era, circa 1840–1870). The statuette of the Virgin is not included in the lot. Superb and rare pair of religious altar candlesticks / votive candles in patinated bronze (or cast brass) dating from the 19th century (Restauration/Napoleon III era, circa 1840–1870).
Each candlestick rests on a three-faceted base, supported by three stylized claw feet (lion paws). On the front face, a raised relief medallion depicts a cherub / winged angel surrounded by an elegant frieze of heart-shaped motifs.
Fluted shaft and flared bobèche with its receptacle socket for a candle or altar candle.
This antique pair of candlesticks is in good used condition for their age, with oxidation traces, wear, and minor scratches. They are as shown in the photos.
Each candlestick measures about 35 cm and weighs 697 g and 662 g (1,359 g total).
