Original Danish teak serving/cocktail board by Lauritz Jensen (Laur. Jensen) Odense, marked on the underside with the characteristic LJ maker mark, number 45 and ‘ODENSE DENMARK’, ca. the 1960s.
Exceptionally fine Danish Modern serving dish made of solid teak, manufactured by Lauritz Jensen from Odense, Denmark, circa the 1960s.
The dish has a pronounced organic and sculptural form that is so characteristic of Danish Mid-Century design. From a single piece of solid teak, three smoothly contoured compartments are carved, which flow into each other almost like leaves or pebble shapes due to their asymmetrical outlines.
On one side the wood continues into a long, integrated handle. This makes the object not only functional as a serving dish, but also gives it the appearance of a small sculptural design object.
Originally intended for nuts, snacks, olives, or other small bites, it also forms a stunning decorative piece on the table.
Particularly attractive is the extensive original underside marking. The dish features the incised Laur. Jensen maker mark, the indications “DENMARK” and “ODENSE” and the number “45”.
