Great parquet clock with rotating circles and putti – 19th century – H. 135 cm - France. This is a creation that combines elements from various periods. Unique model.
Spectacular parquet clock with rotating circles, standing 135 cm high, made in silvered metal and bronze or gilded brass, in the spirit of the great French horological creations in the Louis XVI style.
The ensemble presents an especially rich architecture. The top of the clock consists of a substantial circular body housing the movement, flanked by two gilded, winged putti in the round, treated in silvered metal, which seem to support the dial. The dial adopts the principle known as the “rotating circles”: the hours are shown on enamelled cartouches with Roman numerals arranged on a rotating ring, rather than on a traditional dial.
The movement is concealed beneath an imposing revolving lid with radiating decoration of lanceolate leaves, crowned by a acorn-shaped finial.
The tall column is entirely worked with fluting, acanthus leaves, garlands and floral drops. It rests on a substantial architectural pedestal, particularly decorative, adorned with winged putti heads, bold foliate volutes and in the center a medallion depicting a cherub’s head.
