Description from the seller
Marcel Wanders for Moooi - 'Sponge Vase' sponge vase (1997)
'Sponge Vase', designed by the designer Marcel Wanders.
This specific example is produced by the design label Moooi and has the original Moooi mark on the underside.
The design dates from 1997 and originated from an experimental project for the Droog Design foundation.
The object is a perfect example of the avant-garde and conceptual approach that the Dutch design movement gained worldwide fame for in the 1990s.
Dimensions
Height 6 cm
Length 11.5 cm
Width 11.5 cm
The unique production process:
To make this vase, a real natural sea sponge was dipped in liquid porcelain clay and then baked in the oven. During the firing, the natural sponge burned away completely, leaving behind an extremely detailed, fragile, and organic structure made of pure porcelain. No two vases are exactly alike.
The vase features a tight, contrasting cylinder on the top that serves as a water reservoir for a flower.
The 'Sponge Vase' is a sought-after collectible and is included in the permanent collections of top museums worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York and the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in London.
Designer: Marcel Wanders
Manufacturer: Moooi (with mark on the bottom) Year of design: 1997
Material:
Unglazed porcelain on the outside, glazed reservoir.
The vase is in excellent condition. No breaks, chips, or restorations. The delicate porcelain structure remains beautifully intact and the mark is clearly legible. Please view the photos carefully for an accurate impression of the condition. The object is shipped with the utmost care, professionally packed and insured with track & trace.
