Beautiful work by the Marseille painter Ange Supparo who depicts a mas under the sun of a summer day, in the surroundings of Marseille or Porquerolles where the artist liked to paint. The artist plays with light and contrasts.
A pupil at the School of Fine Arts of Marseille, Ange Supparo attended various salons: those of the French artists and of the National Society of Marine Fine Arts. He participates in exhibitions in Marseille, presenting landscapes and seascapes. In 1900, the Vignon Gallery organized an exhibition of his works in Paris. He becomes the official painter to the Ministry of the Colonies, he settles in Madagascar where in 1913 he founded the School of Fine Arts of Tananarive. He notably had as pupils: Antoine Ratrena (1881-1955), Gaston Rakotovao (1891-1941) and Henri Ratovo (1881-1929).
Note: An old small restoration, without incidence, is visible on the back of the canvas.
Dimensions: 38 x 61 cm without frame and 47 x 69.5 cm with the original carved and re-gilded wooden frame.
