Description from the seller
Antique veined marble clock – functional mechanical movement – early 20th century
Beautiful antique mantle clock made of light marble heavily veined with green, resting on four decorative metal feet.
The model features architecture very typical of French clocks from the late 19th / early 20th century, with an imposing marble body, a gilded metal bezel and an enamel dial decorated with floral motifs.
The dial has black Arabic numerals as well as a peripheral minute track. The hands are in wrought metal.
The clock has a wind-up mechanical movement with key. The mechanism has been tested and currently runs. The clock is accompanied by its pendulum as well as a winding key, visible in the photographs.
The back part preserves its pierced metal case.
Condition
Antique clock sold in its current condition.
It shows several marks related to its age and use:
- some chips and scratches visible on the marble, especially on certain edges and corners;
- traces of former restorations or attachments;
- oxidation and patina on metal elements;
- several decorative elements seem currently missing;
- no signature or maker's mark identified.
Despite these defects, the piece retains a very beautiful decorative presence and its veined marble gives it a lot of character.
The movement works during the test performed before putting it up for sale, but given the clock's age, no guarantee of accuracy or running duration can be given. A service by a clockmaker could be considered for regular use.
An interesting antique marble clock, ideal for a collector, enthusiast of antique horology, or restoration project.
