A great action page featuring Jupiter prominently throughout, dodging gunfire and fighting with his sword. The clean black-and-white linework, dynamic movement and cinematic panel composition are classic Kuwata and show the style that made him one of Japan's leading science-fiction and superhero manga artists of the 1960s. Kuwata transformed Batman and Robin through the visual language of 1960s manga, creating his own villains, machines and science-fiction concepts rather than simply copying the American comic. Shōnen Jupiter therefore comes from an important moment in Kuwata's career, positioned between the success of 8 Man and his Japanese Batman. This original page is an excellent example of the energetic SF action style that made Kuwata one of the distinctive figures of postwar Japanese manga.
