Four modernist decorative tiles by Hermenegildo Miralles (Pascó Nº 11), Barcelona, dating from circa 1900, made of pressed cartón piedra with polychrome relief, each approximately 20 × 20 cm and 0.4 cm thick, in original used condition with signs of age and edge wear, the reverse bearing the inscription “PASCÓ Nº 11” and the manufacturer’s original seal.

Hermenegildo Miralles – Pascó Nº 11 – 4 Art Nouveau modernist tiles – Barcelona – circa 1900
Set of four antique original decorative tiles manufactured by Hermenegildo Miralles in Barcelona, model Pascó Nº 11.
Made in pressed plaster (cardón piedra), polychromed and decorated in relief, a technique used to reproduce the look of ceramic tiles.
They present an attractive modernist decoration with a stylized fantastical bird surrounded by ornamental motifs, in shades of blue, terracotta and cream.
On the back of the four pieces remains the inscription “PASCÓ Nº 11” and the original manufacturer’s seal, where one can read:
“Fábrica Nacional de Azulejos Imitación – Patente de Invención – Hermenegildo Miralles – 59 Bailén 59 – Barcelona”.
Hermenegildo Miralles was a prominent Barcelona-based manufacturer specialized in this type of decorative elements made using pressed plaster.
