Description from the seller
This artwork by Jan Tormi is an abstract and colorful piece in which different shapes seem to move over one another. The artist mainly uses blue, green, red, yellow, black, and white. Some shapes resemble people, animals, or objects, but they are not realistically rendered. Because of this, everyone can recognize something different in it. The dark lines and bright color fields create strong contrasts and make the image lively and playful. At first glance the composition may seem chaotic, but the colors and shapes nonetheless provide cohesion and balance.
Jan Tormi (1951) was born in Lennep, Germany. His career as a self-taught artist began in 1969 in Hamburg. In the 1970s, Tormi traveled across Europe and the Far East. This was an important period for him, during which he articulated historical facts that left traces in his paintings which stem from it. In the early eighties, Tormi took on the technique of etching and other artistic printmaking techniques.
Dimensions: 29 x 23 cm
Dimensions with frame: 62 x 52 cm
