Edwige Feuillère (1907-1998) – Autograph correspondence album, letters, cards and archives – 1960-1970

Description

Important old album entirely devoted to Edwige Feuillère (1907-1998), a major figure of French theatre and cinema.

This collection appears to have been assembled over several years by an admirer/correspondent and gathers both substantial documentation on the actress’s career and numerous manuscript documents attributed to Edwige Feuillère.

The album notably contains:
- several handwritten letters and notes signed;
- several handwritten and signed greeting cards, some circulated by mail;
- a letter written on Carlton Hotel Lille letterhead, dated October 23, 1972;
- several notes on paper printed “Edwige Feuillère”;
- a greeting card accompanied by a handwritten, signed message;
- correspondence and documents dated mainly from the 1970s, apparently representing a continuous exchange over several years;
- cards, envelopes, stamps and postmarks documenting the correspondence;
- an antique dried flower preserved with the documents;
- portraits and photographic documents;
- numerous press clippings devoted to her film and theatre career;
- documentation on her roles, films and performances, notably at the Théâtre de l’Atelier.

The album notably includes a significant illustrated retrospective entitled “Her Cinematic Career in 42 Images,” as well as numerous press articles, portraits and photographs.

Several manuscripts contain personal phrases: news, thanks, travel, health and best wishes. The collection thus presents more the character of a monitored correspondence kept by its recipient than a simple collection of isolated autographs.

The handwriting and signatures show a strong visual coherence across the different documents. The authenticity of the autographs has not, however, been subjected to independent graphological examination and is therefore presented as attributed to Edwige Feuillère.

The set is kept in its original spiral-bound album, bearing “Edwige Feuillère” on the first page. The documents have remained arranged as they were kept by the person who assembled the album.

Old condition with yellowing of the paper, signs of use, small creases and wear corresponding to the age of the documents. The press cuttings are naturally somewhat fragile. See the detailed photographs, which are an integral part of the description.

The album is sold complete, as is, with no separation of letters, cards, photographs or other documents."
