Presented is a particularly well-preserved theater glass by the German optician Jacob Sachs, Köln and Berlin.
Jacob Sachs (often written Jakob Sachs) was a well-known German court optician who produced high-quality optical instruments in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
He was also appointed as a court optician!
The addition “Hofoptiker” (or Hof-Optiker) was a predicate title. It meant that Jacob Sachs was an official supplier to a princely, ducal, or royal house (often the Prussian or a regional Rhineland noble house). This title stood for the highest craftsmanship, excellent glass quality and fine mechanics, which is why his pieces are still popular with collectors today.

From historic workshops such as that of Jacob Sachs, especially noble theater and viewing instruments have endured:
Opera glasses and theater glasses: These were usually made from noble materials such as mother of pearl, brass, aluminum or leather.
Here the tubes and eyecups were encased with bone or horn – very beautiful workmanship and without cracks!

Minimal, hardly noticeable indentation on one of the lower lenses – metal.
