Unisex bronze pendant with a heavy chain in a Brutalist/Modernist Scandinavian design, dating from circa 1960–1975, made in Finland with an authentic patina, weighing 77.5 g, in excellent vintage condition and unsigned.
Description from the seller
Vintage brutalist-modernist bronze pendant with chain – Scandinavian style – approx. 1960–1975
Special and pronounced vintage bronze pendant with heavy chain, executed in a characteristic brutalist-modernist style from the 1960s–1970s.
The rectangular pendant has a powerful sculptural design with a strongly raised relief. Spirals, circles, lines, spheres and geometric elements form an abstract, almost totemic composition. The different heights in the relief create a beautiful play of light and shadow and give the piece its pronounced architectural character.
The bronze has over the years developed a particularly attractive natural patina, with warm bronze- and copper-toned hues, dark patinations, and local greenish oxidation. This authentic patina is intentionally preserved and emphasizes the brutalist character of the design.
Scandinavian modernism
The form language shows clear stylistic similarities with Scandinavian and especially Finnish modernist jewelry from the 1960s–1970s. In this period designers frequently experimented with bronze, strong surface textures, organic geometry and abstract symbolism.
The style aligns with the broader Finnish jewelry tradition in which designers such as Pentti Sarpaneva and Hannu Ikonen and producers like Kalevala Koru were active.
These names are mentioned solely as stylistic references. As far as visible, no maker's mark has been found and the pendant is therefore not attributed to a specific designer or manufacturer.
The hefty chain harmonizes beautifully with the pendant in terms of rugged appearance and patina, making the whole a powerful statement piece.
