Description from the seller
Origin. Côte d'Ivoire
Tribe name. Dan
Material. Wood
Size. 50
Shipping method. Colissimo in 24–48 hours
This patinated wooden statue, originating from Côte d'Ivoire (Dan / Yacouba art), depicts a female figure with stylized, expressive proportions.
Here are its main features:
The head: It is particularly large and oval, topped by a rounded forehead and prominent arched eyebrows that arch over finely carved almond-shaped eyes. The nose is straight and pronounced, while the mouth is depicted with thick, slightly parted lips.
The neck: Long and cylindrical, it connects the imposing head to a simply shaped torso.
The body: The torso is distinguished by two pointed, conical, prominent breasts, characteristic of certain depictions of femininity and fertility in Dan art. The navel is marked by a small raised protrusion at the center of the abdomen.
The limbs: The arms hang rigidly and schematically at the sides, ending in simplified hands. The legs are short, straight, and slightly bent, anchored on rudimentary feet attached to a modern black base.
The patina: The wood has a beautiful aged patina in nuanced dark brown tones, with lighter, worn areas that bear witness to its age and handling.
