Description from the seller
LONGINES AVIGATION BIGEYE – L2.816.4.53.2 | FULL SET | EXCELLENT CONDITION
I am putting up for sale my Longines Avigation BigEye, reference L2.816.4.53.2, purchased new in December 2020.
A particularly interesting opportunity for anyone seeking one of the most charismatic models in Longines' Heritage collection, in a condition that is very hard to find.
The Avigation BigEye is a reinterpretation of Longines' historic pilot chronograph and quickly became one of the brand’s most recognizable Heritage watches. Its design even earned it the “Revival Watch Prize” at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève in 2017.
This specimen is very, very well cared for, having always been used with great caution.
One especially relevant detail: the original Longines bracelet has never been worn, so it is effectively new.
It is sold Full Set, including:
Original Longines box
Documentation
Original Longines bracelet never worn
Original buckle
Remaining elements that accompanied the watch at purchase
Purchase date: 12/2020
Reference: L2.816.4.53.2
Serial no.: 46527XXX
DIMENSIONS
The BigEye manages to combine the presence of a true aviation chronograph with very balanced proportions on the wrist:
Diameter: 41 mm
Thickness: approximately 14.45 mm
Lug-to-lug: approximately 48.7 mm
Lug width (between lugs): 20 mm
Despite the 41 mm case, the proportions of the case and lugs make it sit very well on the wrist, maintaining the strong visual presence typical of a pilot chronograph without becoming excessively large.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
Case: stainless steel
Dial: black, vintage-inspired
Crystal: scratch-resistant sapphire with anti-reflective treatment
Movement: Longines automatic mechanical caliber L688
Chronograph: column wheel system
Frequency: 28,800 alternations per hour (4 Hz)
Power reserve: approximately 54 hours
Central chronograph hand: seconds
Oversized 3 o’clock counter: 30 minutes
6 o’clock counter: 12 hours
Small seconds: 9 o’clock
Luminescence: Super-LumiNova on indices and hands
Water resistance: 3 bar / 30 m
Case back: solid steel
Original strap: Longines brown leather, never worn
Clasp: Longines buckle
The large 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock—the “Big Eye” that gives the watch its name—together with the chronograph’s large pushers, the highly legible dial, and the vintage-profile crystal give it a very distinctive identity.
In my opinion, it is one of Longines' best-executed Heritage models: historically grounded without feeling old-fashioned, sufficiently sporty for daily wear, and with a column-wheel automatic chronograph movement that is particularly interesting in this range.
A Full Set example, very well preserved and with the original bracelet completely new — an excellent opportunity to acquire a BigEye in a configuration and condition that are hard to find.
