Chair - Savonarola - Walnut - Florentine masters

Elegant Savonarola chair by Florentine artists in walnut wood.

Made in the mid-20th century in Italy, specifically in the Tuscany region.
The Savonarola is a folding chair, folding shut like a book and consisting of serpentine curved elements and cross X. It features lion’s feet and geometric decorations, while the backrest and seat are made of leather.

The term "Savonarola" derives from the name Girolamo Savonarola (1452 - 1498), in whose time a chair of this type still existed in his cell at the convent of San Marco in Florence, where he lived from 1482 until his death.

In good overall condition, normal signs of wear and age (see photo). The chair has recently been restored with termite treatment and wax for wood treatment.
Dimensions: 78 cm height x 65 cm length.
