Perfume bottle (2) - .925 silver

Pair of antique late Victorian porcelain scent/perfume bottles with hallmarked sterling silver mounts, both bearing the CM maker’s mark associated with C C May & Sons of Birmingham.

The larger rounded bottle is beautifully decorated in a Japanese-inspired style with rich red, white and gilt decoration. The sterling silver mount is hallmarked for Birmingham with date letter “o” for 1888–1889.

The smaller oval bottle has an attractive and unusual pastel pink, pale blue and cream geometric/mosaic-style decoration highlighted with gilt. Its sterling silver mount is hallmarked for Birmingham with date letter “r” for 1891–1892.

The two bottles therefore date from the late Victorian period and make a particularly attractive pair, with contrasting decorative styles and silver mounts bearing the same maker’s mark.

Both bottles retain their silver-topped fittings and display very well.

Approximately 5 cm in height.

Both are in good antique condition, with expected age-related surface wear, light wear to the decoration and patina/tarnishing to the silver. Please study the detailed photographs, including the hallmark photographs, as these form an important part of the description.
