Old Nuremberg weight set (also known as the Nuremberg pile or apothecary weights), made of bronze.
This is a set of ancient adjustable metric weights. The outer box (the larger cup with lid and clasp) serves simultaneously as the main weight and as a protective case.
Inside, it houses several smaller concentric cups that fit perfectly into one another (nesting weights), allowing apothecaries, pharmacists, or goldsmiths to measure different fractions of mass with great precision.
The German city of Nuremberg was the largest and most famous center for manufacturing these weighing systems from the 15th century to the 19th century.
The set is complete and in very good condition.
