In a tight synthesis with the music from Schubert's song cycle "Winterreise," St. Petersburg-based Dmitry Sirotkin's photobook of the same name has been published. The black-and-white album isn't simply inspired by the "beautiful and austere" German title—the images themselves are visually subtle, masterful sketches of scales, rhythms, and notes. The desolate, snowy landscapes are a harsh, timeless romanticism, a personal experiment for the author. The cover, whose geometry literally echoes the stave, offers a synesthetic stroll.
