Spectacular Provençal mirror from the Louis XV period in carved and gilded wood - France, 18th centuryExcepcional wall mirror ("Miroir Provençal") made in wood richly hand-carved and gilded with fine gold leaf, characteristic of the high cabinetmaking of southern France during the 18th century.The mirror stands out for its magnificent carved upper pediment, described as a "bouquet garni", representing an elegant basket or crest overflowing with vegetal motifs. The outer frame presents a sinuous, dynamic Rococo silhouette, meticulously decorated with grape clusters, intertwined vine leaves and delicate Rocaille elements. These fruit and natural motifs are the distinctive and most sought-after hallmark of the Provençal workshops of this period.The structure retains its top-edge lunettes or embedded perimeter mirrors, typical of the French mirror architecture of the era, which multiply the reflections and luminosity of the piece.Condition: It shows an absolutely extraordinary and authentic antique patina. The original gold leaf gilding shows an aesthetically very pleasing natural wear that enhances its historic character. It presents slight minor losses in the stucco and logical faults due to the passage of centuries, visible in the images, that do not reduce the piece’s value. The central glass and secondary glasses are antique, showing the classic and coveted atmospheric oxidation typical of period mirrors.A true museum piece ideal for collectors of high-era pieces and lovers of classical, sophisticated interior design.
