Continental Art Nouveau Tripod Ceramic Bowl / Jardinière, Turn-Teplitz Style (Bohemia, circa 1900)
A hand-decorated Art Nouveau ceramic bowl (cache-pot / jardinière) raised on three scrolled volute feet, in the manner of the celebrated Bohemian "Amphora" workshops of Turn-Teplitz (present-day Teplice, Czech Republic), a region that, in the years either side of 1900, produced some of the most distinctive Art Nouveau art pottery in Europe, exported widely across the continent and to the United States.
Decoration
The body is finished in a mottled, speckled glaze in tones of olive-gold and ochre, a hallmark textural effect much favored by Bohemian art potteries of the period to give depth and movement to an otherwise plain ground.
Three circular medallions are set into the body (one fully visible, the others partially seen at the edges of the photographs), each bordered by a raised beaded ring in cream enamel. The visible medallion depicts a naturalistic scene of a wading bird (goose or duck) in a marsh landscape of reeds and rolling hills, rendered against a rich cobalt-blue sky — the whole executed in the raised-outline, cloisonné-style technique (tube-lined black outlines infilled with colored glaze) characteristic of high-quality Turn-Teplitz production.
Between the medallions, the body is further decorated with raised stylized fleur-de-lis / flame-form motifs in cobalt blue, teal, and white, each edged in the same raised black outline technique.
The scrolled feet echo the medallion borders with an incised beaded and ribbed decoration.
Marks
The underside bears an impressed rectangular cartouche containing the letter "I", together with a hand-painted blue numeral (reading approximately "5162"), plus a further partially legible blue stamped mark. This combination of an impressed model/workshop mark alongside a separately painted inventory or pattern number is entirely consistent with the marking conventions used by several Turn-Teplitz manufactories of the period (including Riessner, Stellmacher & Kessel and related workshops).
