Description from the seller
Mixed techniques representing a mill in the mist signed
Lucien Frank (1857-1920) Lucien Franck
Third child of Joseph Frank and Serette Levy, Lucien Frank was born in Brussels on November 10, 1857. There are indications that he received his artistic training in France. A supporter of plein air painting, he quickly discovered the charms of the picturesque village of Ohain, where he worked rather intensively in the years 1887-1890, developing his own style. From 1890, he worked a lot in the region of Tervuren, where he settled for some time. But the Belgian coast and sites in the Netherlands also attracted his attention. His interest gradually turned toward animating streets and markets in the large towns, which he rendered in a very personal style. From time to time he stayed abroad.
When World War I broke out, he left Belgium. During this period abroad, which he spent in France and Spain, his wife died. Back in Belgium, in 1919 he found a new home at Ohain with his son Paul. Barely months after settling in his house, he died there unexpectedly on January 19, 1920.
