AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

An exceptional and rare snuff box dating from the 18th century, circa 1780, during the Louis XVI era.

This piece of fine marquetry elegantly marries the precious and organic materials of the period. The body of the box is entirely fashioned in translucent blond horn, like the center of the box, allowing the natural veins of the material to show through. The base and the lid are veneered with precious wood, probably mahogany or rosewood, with a superb warm patina.

The lid is removable; it is a masterpiece of meticulous craftsmanship. It features a wooden surface delicately guilloché with concentric beaded circles, centered by a medallion in blond horn.

In good condition for an object of about 250 years. Only at the base does the horn show a few small losses.
