Chinese Ming Dynasty Fahua-Glazed Ceramic Warrior – 14th to 16th Century AD
A Chinese Ming Dynasty ceramic figure representing an armoured guardian warrior, modelled standing upright on a stepped pedestal and wearing an elaborate helmet and richly detailed lamellar armour. The figure is decorated in a characteristic fahua palette of turquoise, green, brown and cream glazes, with sculpted details including protective shoulder guards with animal-mask motifs, layered armour plates and a weapon held across the body. Fahua wares were particularly popular during the middle Ming period, especially from the late 15th through the 16th century, and employed strongly contrasting coloured glazes separated by raised or moulded contours. Comparable Ming fahua ceramics are dated to the late 15th and early 16th centuries.
