Description from the seller
Alexandre Ouline (attributed): "Two Panthers in Motion".
Description:
Art Deco sculpture depicting two panthers in motion on a tiered base. Made in zamak alloy (or high-quality calamine) with its original patina preserved. Work attributed to the renowned sculptor Alexandre Ouline and created circa 1930.
Although the piece shows no visible signature — a common circumstance due to reassembly or change of plinth during its history — the craftsmanship, the stylized anatomy, and the composition unmistakably correspond to the artist’s catalog.
About the author:
Alexandre Ouline (Belgian/French-born sculptor active between 1918 and 1940) was born in Baku (Azerbaijan) in 1887. He spent most of his career between Belgium and France, especially noted for his representations of wildlife (panthers, felines, birds) and human figures in athletic tension. Among his most famous commemorative works are his iconic busts dedicated to the pioneering aviator Jean Mermoz.
Condition and details:
The sculpture stands out for retaining its period patina and rests on a sophisticated double marble plinth with contrasting veins, which lends elegance to the composition.
Material: patinated zamak on a marble base.
Dimensions: 72 × 15 cm | Height: 22 cm.
Weight: 17 kg (without packaging).
