“The Red Tree” was made in 1908 by Piet Mondrian and is one of the most important paintings in his tree series. The brushwork and the use of unnatural colors play a major role on the canvas, as they reflect Mondrian’s experiments with luminism, a late-Impressionist style that paid a lot of attention to light effects. Mondrian created this work during a stay in the seaside town of Domburg in the Netherlands, and the warm weather influenced his color choices.
