AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Offered for Auction: This Item belonging to the History of F1 as one of the most spectacular air crashes ever.
The impressive crash of Riccardo Patrese in 1992 at the Portuguese Grand Prix occurred on 27 September 1992 at the Estoril Circuit.
It is regarded as one of the most spectacular and terrifying air crashes in Formula 1 history.
The context:
Patrese was driving his powerful Williams FW14B and was closely pursuing Gerhard Berger's McLaren on the Estoril main straight.
The maneuver:
Berger suddenly decided to enter the pits, moved to the right side of the track to slow down.
The crash:
Patrese was glued to Berger's slipstream at about 280 km/h and did not notice the move in time; when he tried to veer away, the right front wheel of the Williams struck the left rear wheel of the McLaren.
The flight:
The impact acted like a ramp, Patrese's car was catapulted into the air, rising vertically in a dramatic fashion and passing just a few centimeters from the pedestrian bridge crossing the pit straight.
The landing:
Patrese's single-seater fell back onto the track and skidded violently until stopping near the pit wall.
Driver's condition:
Incredibly, Patrese got out of the car on his own, unharmed and without serious injuries, just very scared and shaken by the violent collision.
Other damage:
The debris scattered on the track caused punctures to other drivers' tires (such as Michael Schumacher and Pierluigi Martini), and a half-shaft from Patrese's car pierced JJ Lehto's Dallara floor, lightly striking his leg.
Race outcome:
Gerhard Berger managed to continue to the pits, changed the nose/wing, and finished the race in a brilliant second place, a race won by Nigel Mansell.
