This was a mandatory export mark. Following the introduction of the McKinley Tariff Act in the USA in 1890, all imported goods had to be clearly marked with their country of origin. The fact that it bears only the mark "Germany" (and not "West Germany") indicates that the dolls were produced during the interwar period—most likely in the 1910s or 1920s. "6": This number refers to the size designation (mold size) used at the factory, rather than the model number. For Hertwig dolls, the number 6 indicates that the porcelain head and torso measure just under 6–7 cm in height (or approximately 2.5 inches, excluding clothing and hat), making them perfect collectibles for 1:12 scale dollhouses.
