Description from the seller
France – Louis XIV – Demi-écu with eight L, second type – Silver
Silver demi-écu from the reign of Louis XIV, the Sun King. A French royal coin from the early eighteenth century, of the characteristic type “aux huit L”.
The obverse shows the portrait of Louis XIV facing right, with a long wig and armor. The inscription lists his name as LVD XIIII.
On the reverse, eight L’s form a cross with four crowns, alternating with lilies. In the center are three lilies within a circle. The inscription reads SIT NOMEN DOMINI BENEDICTUM.
On both sides there are traces of an earlier coin design, consistent with a re-strike: the re-stamping of an existing coin.

* Type: demi-écu aux huit L, second type
* Period: early eighteenth century; exact year and mint location not established with certainty
* Metal: silver, catalog fineness 917/1000

The distinctive cross and multiple inscriptions are clearly recognizable. The specimen shows circulation wear and surface scratches, especially on the portrait side.
