Weight 0.65 kg.
Sculptural work in stoneware, elongated cylindrical shape with a strongly ribbed base and an upper body molded in an organic way. The surface is crossed by dense runs of glaze in vivid colors – red, yellow, blue, green, white and black – that overflow from the edge and flow freely downward, creating a dynamic contrast between the rough, earthy texture of the stoneware and the liquid brilliance of the colors. The effect is that of a restrained eruption of color within the strict structure of the form.
The glazes of these works are applied in particularly abundant, viscous and dense layers, almost sculptural. During firing the thick masses of glassy glaze melt and flow freely, forming thick drips, voluminous drops, and irregular accumulations that transform the surface of the stoneware into a painted relief. This generous use of glaze is not merely decorative: it creates a strong contrast between the rough, ribbed texture of the ceramic body and the liquid, almost “overflowing” brilliance of the colors. The resulting effect is dynamic and material, halfway between ceramics and gestural painting, and gives each piece a unique, irreproducible character.
Technical details: Material: High-temperature stoneware ceramic 1230 °C
This piece perfectly unites function and sculpture: it can be used as a decorative vase or simply admired as an autonomous work of art. Unique piece, signed by the artist on the bottom. Condition: Excellent condition, without defects or restorations. Ideal for collectors of contemporary ceramics, lovers of ceramics
Max Modolo produces these ceramics in his studio in Italy.
His research concerns the shapes of ceramics and their finishing.
He is very interested in glazes obtained by artists such as Guido Gambone and Marcello Fantoni and has always been attracted by the forms of Lucie Rie and Hans Coper. More information at www.maxmodolo.com
