Characteristic antique wooden side table or game table has elegant, turned and fluted (decorated with longitudinal grooves) legs, which carries classic style features. The dark brown color, fine wood carvings and patinated surface give the furniture an authentic, patinated look. Small tables of this type were often used as card tables, sewing tables or elegant storage tables in the past.
It most likely bears the marks of the French Louis XVI style (Louis XVI), or represents a later (historicizing, turn-of-the-century) version of it. The style and country of origin can be determined based on the following stylistic features: Style: Louis XVI (Classicism / Neoclassicism) Shape of the legs: The most distinctive parts of the furniture are the straight, tapering downwards (conical), decorated with longitudinal grooves (cannelled) legs. Symmetry and straight lines: It breaks with the wavy, exuberant forms of the earlier Rococo and Baroque; the frame and tabletop follow a clean, geometric rectangular shape.
The table is in very good condition for its age. There are signs of use, some screws on the side at some point, not disturbing. It was purchased from a French antique dealer.
