Antique Victorian-style four-tier wooden étagère from France, in good condition with minor signs of aging and blemishes; dimensions 87 cm high, 70 cm wide, 17 cm deep.
Description from the seller
A four-tiered, dark brown wooden turned shelf (called an “etager”) is shown, a traditional, classical style piece of furniture. The shelves are held together by ornately crafted, turned wooden columns, and there are spherical decorations (legs and ends) at the top and bottom.
Style: Old German style (historical / late historicism), especially "spool-turned" and late Victorian / Eastlake.
It is characterized by simple, clean shelves and turned columns consisting of emphasized, rhythmic rotating bodies. Period: The peak of mass production of furniture and the spread of these styles can be dated to the end of the 19th century (around the turn of the 1880s–1900s). In rare cases, it can also be a retro/vintage imitation from the first half of the 20th century (1920s), but based on the nature of the workmanship, it can be classified as a peacetime, turn-of-the-century piece.
Country of origin: This shelf type and name originally started its conquering journey from France (étagère) as an ornament for bourgeois homes. It was purchased from a French antiques dealer.
It is in good condition for its age, of course it has signs of use, the columns rotate a couple of times but cannot be disassembled.
We can post it carefully packaged, in an insured, registered package.
