BERNARDINO LABRADA (Cali, Colombia, 1934) was born in the traditional San Antonio neighborhood of Cali. He trained in the Fine Arts environment of Cali and is considered a figure linked to the artistic tradition of Valle del Cauca.
His painting is mainly figurative, although throughout his career he incorporated elements of simplification and abstraction. Among his themes are popular and rural scenes, musicians and serenaders, rural funerals, workers, fishermen, laundresses, childhood, and elements drawn from the myths and legends of the Colombian Pacific.
His style is characterized by the importance of the human figure, drawing, color, and a lyrical interpretation of reality, more focused on conveying emotion than on reproducing strictly realistic what is depicted.
