AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Pair of gilt bronze candelabras (ormolu) - Louis XVI / Directory Style - Late 18th / Early 19th century
Description: Fascinating pair of bronze candelabras finely cast and chased, dating to the period spanning the end of the 18th century to the beginning of the 19th century (Louis XVI / Directory Era). The candelabras feature a rich decoration with acanthus leaf motifs on the flared base, fluting and beadwork along the shaft. The original mercury gilding (ormolu) is partially preserved and creates a splendid contrast with the dark, authentic patina of the bronze accumulated in the recesses of the chasing.
Conditions: Good overall condition, consistent with age and use. Note: an ancient restoration or internal consolidation: the tightening nuts under the bases were replaced in a later period with modern elements to ensure the stability of the structure.
