Description from the seller
Elegant Spanish Art Deco Glass Bud Vase with Hallmarked Silver Base – Circa 1934–1940
A striking and elegant Spanish bud vase, dating to approximately 1934–1940, featuring a beautifully sculpted clear glass body mounted on an ornate silver base.
The vase displays a tall, slender trumpet-shaped profile, with pronounced vertical fluting that creates an attractive interplay of light and reflections. The glass rises gracefully from a substantial, decorative silver-mounted foot, featuring stepped circular bands and finely detailed reeded ornamentation.
The overall design combines the refined symmetry of the Art Deco period with classical architectural influences, resulting in a sophisticated decorative piece suitable for both traditional and contemporary interiors.
Silver Hallmarks
The silver base bears a Spanish five-pointed star hallmark, consistent with the Spanish silver assay system introduced in 1934, together with a numbered mark, 16, within a worn cartouche. The latter may represent the registered maker’s mark, although the silversmith has not been conclusively identified.
The dating of circa 1934–1940 is based on the hallmark and the stylistic characteristics of the piece.
A distinctive example of Spanish decorative silverware from the Art Deco period, combining sculptural glass with a finely detailed silver mount.
A beautiful addition to a collection of antique and vintage glassware, Spanish silver, or Art Deco decorative objects.
Condition: Good vintage condition, with signs of age and use consistent with its period. The silver mount displays surface wear and tarnishing. Please examine the photographs carefully, as they form part of the description and show the condition and hallmarks in detail.
An attractive and unusual piece of Spanish decorative craftsmanship.
