Baroque table frame in solid wood, hand-carved with original gilding on ammannitura, dating to the late 19th century (c. 1880–1900), Italian in origin, external 33 x 25 cm, in good overall condition with age-related marks and a missing fragment on the top right of the cimasa.
Description from the seller
Hand-carved Baroque-looking table frame in wood with original gilding on ammannitura – Late 19th Century (33x25 cm)
Sophisticated and scenographic table frame (also adaptable for wall display) in the full Italian Barocchetto/Rococo style, dating to the late 19th century (Eclectic/Umbertine period, circa 1880-1900).
The piece stands out for its rich, ostentatious pierced carving with foliate motifs and C and S scrolls, topped by a finely worked pediment.
Material: Entirely made of solid wood, hand-carved with gouge. The artisanal workmanship is clearly evidenced by the tool marks on the back and inside the pediment section.
Finish: Original period gilding applied on traditional ammannitura (often a preparation layer of plaster and glue). The back and inner profiles of the door frame show the era-typical ochre finish, used at the time to protect the wooden support.
Hardware: Complete and original, equipped with a mobile rear supporting foot fixed with an iron-era hinge and cutting screws, in addition to the upper ring in twisted iron wire for possible wall hanging.
External dimensions: 33 x 25 cm
The object is in good general condition, structurally solid and with a beautiful patina of time on the original gilding, which has not undergone repainting or invasive modern restorations.
Note for transparency: As highlighted in the close-up photographs, at the upper right part of the pediment there is a clean break with the loss of a portion of the foliate scroll. The damage reveals the solid wood section and the white plaster preparation. It is a visible defect but easily restorable through a conventional restorative intervention and local gilding. Slight and normal signs of superficial wear consistent with age.
