Basket - Velvet, Silk - Napoleon III Era

Exceptional and rare paper bin or salon accessory in the shape of a military drum, dating from the second half of the 19th century, during the Napoleon III era.

This beautiful Second Empire piece is covered with luxurious moiré silk velvet in a red-purple color, whose changing reflections magnificently catch the light. The structure faithfully and realistically mimics a ceremonial drum, thanks to remarkable period passementerie work.

We feature raised braided cords that simulate the military tensioning system, broad jacquard braids adorned with floral motifs, and small buttons that serve as fasteners.

The interior is lined with the original sea-green moiré silk, characteristic of boxes and cases from this period.

The velvet is a little worn in a few places, which is common for a piece of this age. The interior is in good condition, but the silk will need to be reattached."
