Description from the seller
French Antique Round Pedestal Table – Carved Solid Oak – 19th Century
Description
Impressive 19th-century French round pedestal table, crafted from solid oak and distinguished by exceptionally rich carved decoration.
The table stands on a substantial central pedestal supported by four beautifully sculpted legs. The base is extensively decorated with hand-carved acanthus leaves, scrolls, floral and foliate motifs, giving the piece a strong architectural and sculptural presence.
The central column is particularly elaborate, with deep relief carving and turned elements. The outer edge of the circular tabletop is also decorated with a continuous carved foliate border.
The large solid wooden top displays a beautiful natural grain and warm aged colour. The surface shows traces of its long history, including variations in colour, small marks, scratches and other signs of use consistent with an authentic antique piece.
The combination of the monumental pedestal, elaborate carving and dark oak gives the table the characteristic appearance of French historicist furniture of the second half of the 19th century, with Renaissance Revival / Neo-Renaissance influences.
A highly decorative statement piece suitable as a centre table, library table or dining table, as well as for an antique or historic interior.
