DESCRIPTION:
This original work by Ralf Altrieth unfolds a lush universe where figures, sketched characters, signs and abstract forms cross paths in an incessant game of lines and colors. Some presences stand out clearly, while others stay half-hidden in the material. The eye moves freely, from one apparition to another, never exhausting the richness of the composition.
Between free figuration, instinctive drawing and graphic poetry, the work does not aim to impose a precise reading. It rather lets the imagination establish its own associations.
Through its energy and visual density, it first attracts with its abundance and colors, then holds the gaze with the multitude of details and presences that gradually reveal themselves.
At the border between drawing and painting, this work bears witness to a deeply personal language of Ralf Altrieth: a free and instinctive creation, where gesture, imagination and matter meet without ever losing their spontaneity.
CRITIQUE:
"There is a lot of poetry in this painting, as in all the artist’s works. They are populated with narrative codes and fantastical tales. In this sense, the pictorial poems of Ralf Altrieth are a pure childish chant... But the most astonishing thing that manifests in these paintings is a communicative tenderness for the states of mind of the human being."
— Dr. Friedhelm Häring, museum director and art historian
"His writing by gesture and color describes a world open to new voices and to experiments never attempted. His canvases and works on paper demonstrate that painting remains a major expression on the contemporary scene."
— Laurent Puech, art historian and curator
BIOGRAPHY:
Ralf Altrieth (Heilbronn, 1966) is a Franco-German painter and musician, recognized for his expressive and spontaneous universe, at the frontier of figuration and abstraction. Trained in his teens with painter Georg Schaible and then at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nürtingen in the late 1980s, his work is distinguished by rare pictorial energy and a particularly sensitive language. His works are today in numerous private collections around the world.
SHIPPING:
The work will be shipped rolled in a solid tube to ensure secure transport.
It is entrusted to an express carrier providing home delivery, with full tracking and signature on delivery, to guarantee the best protection of the artwork until it is handed over to you in person.
NOTE ABOUT THE MARGINS:
The outer margins of the paper show a few traces related to removing the masking tape. They are completely normal and appear only on the unpainted areas. They will be hidden by the mat if you choose this framing method, or can be trimmed by cutting the work from 75 × 105 cm to 70 × 100 cm (see situational visuals). Your local framer can handle this easily.
Note: The situational images are presentation suggestions made with AI based on photos of the actual work. Photos of the real object are authoritative (the entire work, close-up details and the signature on the back). Colors may vary slightly depending on your screen’s color profile.
