Invisibile, a first edition, French-language hardcover photography book by Franco Fontana (SIGNED on the title page), published in 2022 by 5 Continents, 168 pages, 27.5 × 22.5 cm, on the subject of Photographie and in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Exceptionally signed copy on the title page by Franco Fontana (1933 – 2026), unique and unattainable elsewhere on the internet in a signed edition, extremely rare in unsigned copies. 120 pages and about 86 black-and-white full-page photographs in large format (21 cm x 32 cm). In excellent condition, practically like new.
Throughout his sixty-year career, Franco Fontana photographed what is not seen, managing to fix in the lens an “other” image, detached from reality, liberated from the subject depicted. His work on geometry, proportions, and composition allowed him to reach, in stages, a conceptual synthesis that is both his personal language and his formal manifestation.
Invisible is the result of a meticulous exploration of the artist’s archives, which brought to light unpublished shots, ranging from the most experimental explorations to the most free expressions of his subjectivity, without neglecting the iconic images that built his international notoriety.
This album, composed with particular care, is addressed to those who wish to have an overview of the author’s career, but also to explore this inner space, beyond reality, devoted to suggestive interpretation, the quest for the image in the making, which only the photographer’s visual sensitivity has been able to collect and translate into unique and inimitable shots, so that the invisible suddenly becomes visible.
Franco Fontana, born in 1933, began photography at the beginning of the 1960s, opting for color photography and quickly taking an interest in landscape photography. Eliminating any superfluous element from his images, he combines lines, shapes, and colors with great economy of means, allowing him to reach a degree of abstraction akin to modern painting by gathering two or three color zones. His photographs are characterized by strong chromatic sensitivity and a remarkably equal capacity for composition. After natural landscapes, he later turned to urban landscapes by isolating essential elements, always in search of harmony of forms and colors. Humans then appear in these urban compositions in the form of shadows or silhouettes.
Franco Fontana established himself internationally as one of the “inventors” of color photography, on par with a few rare American photographers, i.e., one of the first photographers capable of expressing a complete language entirely designed with color.
A book from my personal collection kept with the utmost care, in excellent condition, practically like new. Shipped with reinforced packaging and international tracking guaranteed. In the case of multiple purchases, group shipping is possible with a refund of any excess postage paid via Paypal.
