Description from the seller
BOOK OF VISIONS Codex Vindobonensis 8629 with a text by Jorge Luis Borges. Volume 26 of the series "The Signs of Man" was printed in October 1980 by Franco Levi under the direction of Franco Maria Ricci. The type used is Bodoni. The handmade laid paper was prepared specially in a round shape at the Miliani papermakers in Fabriano. This volume is number 60 belonging to the first edition of three thousand numbered copies. Blue paper. Volume in the original case absolutely perfect. Binding in black silk with titles impressed in gold and photo-application on the cover. The control slip is also preserved.
The volume features the paintings for the splendid funeral ceremonies of the Polish nobility with an important essay on the iconography by Mariusz Karpowicz. In addition to Borges’ prologue (which also signs "25 August 1983"), the fascinating volume includes texts devoted to the world of the dead beyond ours: Plato, Cicero, Thomas Wright, Bede, Orderic Vitalis, Cervantes, Shakespeare, etc...
Magnificent color illustrations. The book was purchased by me as soon as it appeared, then stored on the shelf; reopened only now for the photographs. As new, absolutely perfect for a collection.
