Bench - Wood

an antique wooden school desk, probably from the late 19th or early 20th century. This type of piece of furniture was designed as a single solid unit, with the seating area and the writing area attached to each other.
Some notable features of this model:
Integrated design: The desk (with backrest) and the lectern share the same wooden base.
Inkpot recesses: In the top surface of the lectern you can see a round hole (for a glass or porcelain inkpot) and a rectangular slot where the pen or stylus could be laid.
Hinged lid: The front part of the desktop can be folded up, so items such as notebooks and books could be kept in the storage compartment beneath.
Sturdy wood joints: On the sides there are traditional mortise-and-tenon joints with wooden wedges, indicating solid craftsmanship.
