Italian handmade bamboo floor planter on wheels in Mid-Century Modern style, inspired by Gabriella Crespi, dating to 1960–1970, 21.5 cm high and 41 cm square, with three original swivel wheels, in good vintage condition with small signs of age.
Description from the seller
Elegant and iconic terracotta planter on wheels of high-end Italian manufacture, produced between the late 1960s and early 1970s. This splendid piece of furniture is entirely handmade using the precious pencil reed technique (slender cylindrical bamboo/rattan slats arranged and curled into a spiral), strongly inspired by the contemporaries of Gabriella Crespi. The cachepot features a low, capacious cylindrical shape, originally designed to host large exotic or tropical indoor plants (such as Ficus or Monstera), an aesthetic pillar in mid-century modern bourgeois interiors. The inner and outer base is constructed in solid wood to guarantee maximum stability and weight resistance. At the bottom there are 3 original pivoting wheels, perfectly functional, which allow you to orient and move the plant with extreme ease. The piece is in good vintage condition. The bamboo structure retains its beautiful warm honey patina. Being an antique item used as a plant holder, it shows the normal and fascinating signs of the time, including small halos and natural discolorations on the inner wooden base, which do not in any way compromise its structural solidity or aesthetic beauty. A highly decorative mid-century piece signed by one of the period’s most coveted manufactories, perfect for adding an organic, chic Hollywood Regency touch to any contemporary interior.
